VAP & Flock South West Artist Mentoring During Covid-19

Visual Art Plymouth CIC are teaming up with Flock South West to provide mentoring sessions for Plymouth based artists who are planning projects during 2020. We are looking to support individuals whose projects have been impacted by COVID-19, and who are looking for support on how to develop their work under COVID-19 restrictions. This will be especially advantageous for early career artists who are trying to deliver their first projects. We have 5 slots available for artists who are looking for some coaching or troubleshooting in delivering their project. The support will take the form of 2 x 1.5 hr mentor sessions and follow-up email support and feedback.

What we might be able to help you with:

  • General advice on project delivery
  • Conceptual conversation on the shape of the work
  • How to adapt work to ensure it can still happen under social distancing
  • How to market your work
  • How to find peer based support and critique of projects
  • How to access advice, permissions and spaces for work
  • Advice on funding applications

It is important to stress that we can’t guarantee any concrete solutions, but we can offer support to sound-out issues that you may be coming up against and help you plan next steps to develop your work. Please also be aware that if your project is happening during the Plymouth Art Weekender 2020, it must already have permissions and have been submitted to our listings (now closed).

If this sounds like something that will really help you to push your work forward (or you know someone else who might be in need of this kind of support) please get in touch by emailing us at visualartsplymouth@gmail.com by the 3rd of August telling us:

  • About your project/idea
  • How your project progress has been affected by Covid-19
  • What kind of support you think you will need
  • Any other support you might already be receiving (grants, support from other organisations, educational institutions)
  • Any access needs you have in relation to how we can provide our mentoring sessions

Representatives from VAP and Flock will meet to discuss the applications against the criteria listed above, and we will be in touch shortly thereafter to let you know if we are able to pair you with someone from Visual Arts Plymouth or Flock South West who can support you.
